For this evening Yorgos has organized a soup dinner at the old people's home of Tinos.
The home's manager is also called Yorgos. He's a handsome young guy wearing a ponytail and doesn’t fit at all into the stereotype of a typical administration official. He welcomes us heartily and thanks us for coming, even though we are the ones who ought to be thankful for the invitation. He shows us through the and introduces us to the occupants, altogether 21 seniors. He has a few nice words for each of them, holds their hands or runs his hand over their heads. He always smiles and his cheerfulness is contagious, and the old people extremely appreciate him.
He leads us to the kitchen, where Nicos, the cook, is preparing the Hortosoupa.

The home belongs to the orthodox church of the holy Virgin Mary, located high above Chora as an impressive marble cathedral. The construction of the chuch goes back to a vision of the nun Pelagia, where she predicts the discovery of a Holy Mary icon. In fact an icon was dug out in 1823 at the very same place. Until this day the icon is attributed to have healing power and is exposed in the cathedral for the purpose of adoration.

At seven o’clock the home residents go to the dining hall to sit down for dinner. We also take our seats and then the soup is served. After dinner Ioannis and Odysseas unpack their guitar and violin and start to play old folk songs. The spirits rise as the audience clap hands to the rhythm and two agile senior women start a lively dance. After cordially saying good-bye, we leave the old people's home around ten o’clock. It's been a joyful evening not only for the seniors, but we also leave for the next kitchen with a full taste of empathy about dignity of aging.
