At 7.30 in the morning, we board a Blue Star ferry and arrive at the Island of Tinos at around 12:30. Our friends Yorgos and Ioannis are already waiting for us and receive us with the unique cordiality, which is characteristic of the Aegean Islands. Yorgos has invited his friends for dinner: Gerlinde, the cook for next day and Nikoletta (accompanied by her husband), who was to cook the soup the day after tomorrow. Yorgos is the cook of soup nr.85 and has been the organizer of the whole soup trip on the Islands of Tinos, Syros and Mykonos. Beside the traditional lentil soup we have lots of fresh salads, olives, anchovy, tahima, zucchini, and marinated mushrooms, complemented by good red wine and delicious desserts. And as always – accompanied by good music. Apart from Yorgos` marked preference for opera and classical music in general, lots of music in different styles are to be found at the voluminous music library. A new discovery for me is the unrivalled Dee Dee Bridgewater with her album “Red Earth, a Malian Journey” and Amadou and Miriam with their album “Dimanche e Bamako.” I have known Yorgos for years. We´ve got a very close friendship, based on our common experience in practicing Karatedo, since around 20 years. His home lies on a small hill in Kiona, about 3km outside of Tinos Chora. One has a wonderful view of the ocean from his home and when the sky is clear you can see the Island of Syros and the mountainous silhouette of Paros.
